Los niños(as) en el espacio del centro comercial: estudio comparativo de la conducta de niños(as) pobres y niños(as) acomodados
Keywords:
Consumer behavior, cognitive development, economic, psychologyAbstract
The present study focuses on the comparison between two groups of nine to eleven year old children (both sexes) of poor and well of social statuses, respectively, who visit shopping centers. Our results might help to attain
a better comprehension of alternative views of consumer bahavior. On one hand, it might be associated to a speciftc stage of cognitive development, on the other, to different patterns of socialization undergone by both groups. For the present study, data of two previous studies were recoded, one with poor and the other with economically well off children, which were observed at the shopping center by means of similar techniques. Tables with data of the behavior of both samples were constructed, with the selected dimensions and variables.
Results showed a significantly difierent pattern of behavior of both groups. Thus, consumer behavior of children seems highly attributable to social upbringing patterns instead of resulting from evolutionary changes.
