Approach to the history of education in Colombia and the social context of Cartagena: Ability to understand school careers as a result of the political dynamics
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article discusses the results of a qualitative research aimed at identifying tensions and milestones that make up the Colombian educational system, and highlighting the challenges faced by the Government in relation to the basic guarantees to encourage the children and young people to enter and remain in the school system by increasing levels of coverage and reducing repetition rates.
The methodology focused on a qualitative paradigm from an interpretative approach based on the identification of the theoretical categories as school trajectory (promotion, repetition, dropout, retention and attendance) and the legal dispositions over recent years that have affected the dynamics of the education system. It is concluded that it is necessary to understand the pathways from school trajectory, stories, experiences and meanings that students allot to their time at school.
