Abstract
The development of linguistic and intercultural competence of learners of a foreign language is a central objective in the training of citizens in the twenty-first century. This article describes the experience of two teachers who staged a virtual exchange project to encourage the development of linguistic and intercultural skills of two groups of students from different language and culture. Through the implementation of virtual exchange activities showed a development of these skills in these students. A crucial component of this experience was the ability to use tools like Skype and the WebCT through which students could work with their peers in knowledge construction.
