Abstract

This article shows the results of a study aiming at analyzing the conceptualization about perimeter, area and volume constructed by three university students in order to determine the development stage of comprehension of the process of measure of them, according to Piaget's theory.

A questionnaire was applied to a group of students of the second semester of Industrial Design, in the first academic semester of 2007. Three students were selected because they presented difficulties in the comprehension of the topics treated in Calculation subject. Results show that the target subjects are not in the high stage of development of comprehension of measure. This is an obstacle for solving calculation problems, in relation to perimeter, area and volume topics.
